The Regency Palace Hotel and Conference Centre was badly damaged during the Iraqi occupation of 1990. The hotel had to be completely gutted and major renovation work was done to bring it back to its former glory.

The completely refurbished 5-star hotel is now up to international luxury standards, and comprise a variety of room types and visitor facilities designed in a neo-classical theme. Some facilities also include a lavish lobby to have tea in, several pools, gym, beach,  exhibition/wedding facilities
