Chest Diseases Hospital Extension Underway

Construction  is under way of the WALEED AND ABDUL RAHMAN INTENSIVE CARE CENTRE, an extension to the Chest Diseases Hospital at the Al-Sabah Medical Area. The building will have a total built up area of 8,750 m2 and will House the following:

• Patient and visitor amenities such as entrances, registration counters, waiting areas, food and beverage outlet, and administrative offices.
• State-of-The-Art surgical theatres and an intensive care unit.
• Critical care unit with patient wards
• Staff community elements such as a 120-person auditorium, a banquet facility and a gym.

The design of this extension took into consideration historical and traditional architectural qualities while understanding the changes in knowledge and technology, and the impact this has on the lives and working habits of those using the building. We have, thus, developed a rational design language rooted in the classical architectural tradition by utilizing elements such as screens, shadows, simple forms, texture and scale.
