College of Business in Tender
Gulf Consult in association with Cambridge Seven Associates, Inc. of Boston had been commissioned by the Kuwait University Construction Program to undertake the Study, Design and Supervision of the College of Business at the new Sabah Al-Salem University City Campus. The project is already in tender and bids are due on May 17th 2011.
The College of Business is being designed as a unique new state of the art teaching and research facility for a total of 4,000 students divided between the female and male campuses. It will house eight major departments including:
- Accounting.
- Economics.
- Finance & Financial Institutions.
- Management.
- Marketing.
- Quantitative Methods.
- Information Systems.
- Public Administration.
The Architectural Concept Design for the College is based on the main building wrapping around a large central garden as the major public space or ‘College Agora’. The building itself is wedge shaped in plan and spirals up about its interior public space, stepping vertically from three to six levels, and maximizing views to the internal and external spaces. The building massing is lifted above a recessed ground level, providing shade around the buildings perimeter.
